On the evening of January 11, 2025, the Malaysia Jiangsu Entrepreneurs Business Association (MJEBA) 2025 Chinese New Year Gala was grandly held at the Four Seasons Hotel Kuala Lumpur. With the theme “Cooperation and Development: Writing a New Chapter for ‘Su'”, the event set the stage for a year of mutual growth and success.

The gala was graced by prominent figures from the political, business, and academic sectors. YB Liew Chin Tong, Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry of Malaysia, attended as the guest of honor, adding great significance to the event. Other distinguished guests included YB Lee Chean Chung, Member of Parliament of Malaysia; Zheng Xuefang, Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia; Dato’ Ng Yih Pyng, President of the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (ACCCIM) and Kuala Lumpur & Selangor Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KLSCCCI); Ni Qingjiu, President of the China Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Malaysia; Dato’ Tan Yew Sing, President of the United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong); Dato’ Sri Ang Lai Hee, Founding Honorary President of the Federation of Chinese Surname Associations of Malaysia and Honorary Advisor of MJEBA; Tan Sri Dato’ Richard Cham Hak Lim, Chairman of the Selangor Turf Club and Chairman of the Malaysian Gaming Commission; Dato’ Kuik Cheng Kang, Group Editor-in-Chief of Sin Chew Media Group (Malaysia) and Chief Editor of Sin Chew Daily; Yau Teck Kong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centre for Malaysian Chinese Studies (Huayan Society); and Xuan Zhuhong, President of the Malaysia Sanjiang Federation.

Additionally, over 240 representatives from business associations and corporate executives gathered to witness this grand event.

During the gala, MJEBA President Sun Jianwei delivered a passionate speech, reflecting on the association’s remarkable achievements over the past year. He highlighted the 50th anniversary of China-Malaysia diplomatic relations in 2024, during which the association successfully hosted and participated in several impactful events, including the “Malaysia Jiangsu International Service Trade Exhibition,” “China-Malaysia Digital Enterprise Matchmaking Conference,” “Traditional Chinese Medicine Service Trade Special Session,” and “Jiangsu Night.” These initiatives further expanded cooperation platforms between Chinese and Malaysian enterprises.

President Sun noted that over 200 Jiangsu-based enterprises have already invested in Malaysia, with a total investment amount of approximately USD 2.59 billion. He emphasized that the association will continue to actively support Jiangsu enterprises in integrating into the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and promoting economic and trade exchanges between China and Malaysia. Looking ahead, he called on members to uphold the spirit of Jiangsu entrepreneurs in the new era, working together to write a new chapter in China-Malaysia cooperation and development.

Minister-Counsellor Zheng Xuefang from the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia extended his Chinese New Year greetings to the attendees and praised MJEBA’s role as a bridge in strengthening China-Malaysia economic and trade relations and people-to-people exchanges.

He emphasized the deep cooperation and vast potential between China and Malaysia, particularly in fields such as smart manufacturing, the digital economy, and green energy. He also recognized MJEBA’s efforts in fostering cultural exchange and social welfare initiatives, which have deepened mutual understanding and strengthened friendships between the two nations. Looking forward, he expressed confidence that China-Malaysia relations will continue to drive regional prosperity and hoped that MJEBA would remain a key link in bilateral cooperation.

Deputy Minister YB Liew Chin Tong delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the importance of deepening China-Malaysia cooperation amid the current global geopolitical landscape. He highlighted Malaysia’s and ASEAN’s crucial role in the global economic framework, particularly as a neutral region amid intensifying US-China competition.

He encouraged Chinese enterprises to consider Malaysia as a strategic gateway to international markets, setting up regional headquarters and R&D centers to expand into ASEAN, South America, and Africa. Additionally, he noted that Malaysia, as the 2025 ASEAN Chair, aims to promote regional collaboration and potentially host an ASEAN-GCC-China Summit, creating new opportunities for economic cooperation.

The Jiangsu Yanghe Distillery Co., Ltd. provided Yanghe Dream Blue Handcrafted Edition as the official liquor for the evening. This premium Baijiu, aged in century-old underground cellars, embodies Jiangsu’s rich brewing heritage and became a highlight of the gala.

During the gala, MJEBA and its member companies demonstrated their commitment to philanthropy:

  • Huang Wei, Chairman of Jiangsu Gibeico Education Group, donated 60 sets of ergonomic adjustable desks and chairs (worth MYR 25,000) to Dong Zong (United Chinese School Committees’ Association of Malaysia).
  • President Sun Jianwei personally donated MYR 200,000 to the Centre for Malaysian Chinese Studies’ operations fund.
  • Sun Jianwei also led a group of Chinese entrepreneurs to raise MYR 1 million for the Dong Zong Chinese Education Complex Fund.

These initiatives showcased MJEBA’s dedication to corporate social responsibility and its unwavering support for Chinese education and community development in Malaysia.

This banquet was not only a celebration and awards ceremony, but also an important platform for promoting cultural and business exchanges, as well as advancing social responsibility and public welfare. Through such events, the Malaysia Jiangsu Entrepreneurs Business Association further strengthened its connections with member enterprises, while also demonstrating its firm support for the Malaysian Chinese community and Chinese education. This event added a significant contribution to the friendship and cooperation between China and Malaysia.
