On July 25, 2024, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia hosted a reception to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Liberation Army. The event was attended by Ambassador Ouyang Yujing, Defense Attaché Liu Chaowei, Malaysian Army Deputy Chief of Staff Dato’ Tengku Muhammad Faiz bin Tengku Ibrahim (Major General), Malaysian government officials, representatives from the Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Headquarters, military personnel from the army, navy, and air force, members of diplomatic and military attaché corps from various countries, representatives from Chinese institutions, students, and overseas Chinese, totaling approximately 450 attendees.

In his speech, Ambassador Ouyang Yujing stated that China and Malaysia are friendly neighbors separated by just a strip of water. This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia, and bilateral relations have consistently been at the forefront of China’s ties with ASEAN countries. China will work with Malaysia, guided by the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, to implement relevant initiatives and contribute to the building of a China-Malaysia community with a shared future. The military relationship between the two countries is an important component of their comprehensive strategic partnership. We are willing to work with Malaysia to deepen defense and military exchanges and cooperation.

In his speech, Defense Attaché Liu Chaowei stated that China has always been a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of international order. The Chinese military remains a steadfast force in maintaining world peace. Let us take the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia as an opportunity to jointly advance military exchanges and cooperation, achieving more achievements and elevating the military relationship to a higher level.

Major General Faiz, the Deputy Chief of the Malaysian Army, positively evaluated the relationship between China and Malaysia, as well as the bilateral military ties. He expressed hope for the expansion of cooperation between the two sides.
